Welcome to the Society of Critical Care Medicine's (SCCM) Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) Knowledge Education Group (KEG)! We are excited to introduce the KEG to the SCCM community and facilitate communication on the use of POCUS in critical care medicine. SCCM has long been a leader in POCUS education and research, and we hope that this forum will encourage both formal and informal engagement with our community members.

    Meet your cochairs:
Sarah E. Bain, MD, is a former chair and vice-chair of the SCCM Ultrasound: Adult Committee and the Adult and Advanced Adult courses. She is a cardiac anesthesiologist, intensivist, and hospital director of POCUS at Virginia Mason Franciscan Hospital in Seattle, Washington, USA. She has held the roles of Virginia Mason Medical Center (VMMC) division head of cardiac anesthesia and associate program director of the VMMC anesthesia residency program.

Russ Horowitz, MD, RDMS, is the former chair and vice-chair of the SCCM Ultrasound: Pediatric and Neonatal Committee and course. He is a pediatric emergency medicine physician and director of emergency and critical care ultrasound at Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago in Chicago, Illinois, USA. He is an associate professor and director of ultrasound education at the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University.

Please take a moment to introduce yourself and share your interests and experiences in ultrasound!

This is fabulous! Thank you for putting the group together. Looking forward to participating.

My name is Connor O'Brien. I am a critical care cardiologist at UCSF. I have participated in the SCCM critical care ultrasound course since 2020, and it's a highlight of the year for me. My research is focussed on biomarkers that help anticipate disease severity in cardiogenic shock. The intersection of blood based biomarkers and imaging is also of great interest. Looking forward to collaborating with this group.
