Ethics Section

Hi Ethics Committee,

I have heard that the neurocritical care society may be working on
creating some ethical guidelines behind organ donation. I also know
that SCCM is working on updating their guidelines for the management
of the organ donor.

I was wondering if this section might be interested in perhaps either
joining forces with the Neurocritical Care Society or perhaps writing
our own version of similar guidelines? They could cover things such as
first person authorization, duties and responsibilities of the OPO as
well as the local team etc.

Just wanted to put this out there and gauge interest!

Hello Richard, I think that a good start would be direct communication with a representative of the neurocritical care society. This would help to clarify i) what exactly they are working on, and ii) whether they are seeking collaboration with the SCCM Ethics Section.

If you are able to communicate with a member of that society and clarify the "ask" for the SCCM Ethics Section (not committee), that would be helpful.
