The Research Section promotes and supports a multiprofessional model of basic, translational and clinical research to ensure optimal outcomes for all critically ill patients. Its mission is to support research development of Society members, and promote communication among Society members regarding research, research opportunities and networks. Further, the Section seeks opportunities to stimulate basic, translational and clinical research activities throughout the Society membership and in the broader critical care community. It also works with SCCM leadership to position SCCM as a nationally recognized leader in critical care research.

Subcommittees:

Awards
     o   Coordinates research-related awards and recognitions within SCCM and the SCCM Research Section.

 Basic and Translational

     o   Promotes and supports basic science and translational research initiatives relevant to critical care.

Bereavement & Palliative Care

     o   Advances research and best practices related to end-of-life care, bereavement, and palliative care in the ICU setting.

Clinical Research and Epidemiology

     o   Supports the design, conduct, and dissemination of clinical and epidemiological research in critical care medicine.

Communications

     o   Manages internal and external communications to keep members informed and engaged with SCCM Research Section activities.

Data Science

     o   Advances the use of data science, analytics, and informatics methods in critical care research.

Programming

     o   Develops educational and research-focused programming/content for SCCM Congress.

Quality and Patient Safety

     o   Promotes research and initiatives aimed at improving the quality of care and patient safety in critical care.

Simulation and Education

     o   Advances simulation-based research and educational methods for critical care training.
