Member Spotlight: Hafiz Rizwan Talib Hashmi MD, FCCP
Hafiz Rizwan Talib Hashmi MD, FCCP, is a physician at UnityPoint Clinic Multi-Specialty in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, USA. He became a member of the Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM) in 2016 and is actively involved in the Social Media Committee and Undergraduate Education Committee. His clinical interests include procedures, pulmonary, and shock. In his free time, you will find him gardening and traveling. Dr. Hashmi shares his critical care story and provides advice for those getting started in critical care.

What is your biggest professional achievement?
Being able to perform nearly all procedures in pulmonary and critical care medicine, and working independently as an intensivist in a busy hospital.
Why do you love being in critical care?
Every day, I have the opportunity to save lives and help those in greatest need. It’s an incredibly fulfilling field that fills me with pride and energy every morning, making me excited to go to work.
What advice do you have for those starting their critical care careers?
Read.
Maintain a balanced work-life routine.
Keep up a good social life.
What do you see as the most challenging issue facing critical care?
Burnout
