  • 1.  Congress session on ethical issues in resuscitation research

What do people think about submitting a Congress proposal (for 2024) on the topic of ethical issues in resuscitation research? We could broaden this to critical care research in general. Thoughts? Have there been any sessions like this in the past few years?

Are there other topics this group would like to submit? The deadline is the end of January.
    Thanks
    Sam

I think it could be an interesting topic. There is an ethics working group within the Curing Coma Campaign with whom we could collaborate with on topics and speakers.

Some topics that pop into my head include:

Prognostication of Coma: Self Fulfilling Prophecy?

Declaration of Brain Death: Resuscitation and Hormones

    Social Disparities in Resuscitation Science

    Standard of Care vs Research

Role of EFIC in Resuscitation Research

Should we talk about this during the call on Friday? Program proposals for 2024 are due January 31.

Yes, I think the KEG call on January 6th would be an excellent opportunity for discussing this idea. I hope all those with interest in your idea will be able to participate in the conversation!

We can also look at " the role of biomarkers and ancillary tests in cardiac arrest and prognostication where we are and what is on the horizon".

Did anything ever come of the discussion on the KEG call regarding trying to get a program proposal submitted for the 2024 Congress?

Now that the 2023 Congress and the deadline for submissions for 2024 have passed, it's not too early to start a discussion about a proposal for 2025. I know we've talked about a few ideas. Anyone want to throw an idea out to the group?

I know that the SCCM Ethics committee members submitted a couple of proposals for 2024, but not sure that any addressed the topic that you had originally suggested (ethical issues in resuscitation research). The topics that Dr.Shutter listed in this thread would make for a good 2025 proposal.
Something to discuss at the next ethics KEG meeting in June!
