    Hello everyone!

I wanted to take this opportunity to introduce myself and start a conversation regarding potential academic pursuits/research opportunities within the state of New Mexico. I believe we cater to a unique patient population and there are several untapped opportunities that can be leveraged well.

I was wondering if there has been prior interest/experience in studying social health determinants/healthcare disparities in any type of patient cohort from this group (within the state or otherwise). Also, insight into any potential ideas might be an interesting exchange.

I look forward to hearing from you and working with you in the future.

    Best Regards,

    Hey,-
Great that you are using this. You can also coordinate with Anthony Tavitas, current NM Chapter President, for other SCCM initiatives. The pandemic has really crushed some of the events we were doing. Naomi George has grant funding in the area of health care disparities. She would definitely know issues surrounding this patient cohort.

    Thanks for bringing this up.

    Hello Dr. Desai,

I work up in the NW corner of NM at San Juan regional medical center. The past 20 months of the pandemic have powerfully highlighted the social determinate of health and evident healthcare disparities. Our hospital is focused on this as one of the main initiatives going forward. I think there is incredible opportunity for improvement and research in our region. We are currently inundated with Covid so all our efforts are focused on that, but I would definitely be interested in brainstorming/hearing about any ideas you may have.
